Drugs in Principals Trash Can

Criminals are notoriously dumb.  Age makes no difference.  Several years ago, one of my high school students was called into the Principal's office for being tardy several times to class.  This is a minor infraction.  The principal intended to verbally reprimand him and send him on his way.

As the principal was talking, the student reached around the side of the desk and threw something in the Principal's trash can.

The principal asked, "What did you throw away?"

"Nothing."  replied the student.

The principal walked around to side of his very large desk and looked in the previously empty trash can.  There was a bag of marijuana in the can--the only thing in the trash can.

"Is that your bag?"  the principal asked.

"No, it's not mine."

"You threw it away."

"No, I didn't." the student replied.

"How did it get there?"

"I don't know."

Knowing it belonged to the student the principal had to take immediate action.  The police were called to file charges.  I was called in to begin transferring this student to the Disciplinary Alternative Education Program.

I somehow doubt this student will be a very successful criminal.
